    Dear Central Montessori Families:

The school board will be considering a number of options as they look to make up to $2 million of budget reductions. These reductions follow $5.5 Million of budget reductions made in the last three years. Given the financial challenges facing the school district we are forced to examine all areas of programming for potential reductions.

I am writing to inform you that on the April 5th school board agenda is an action item wherein the school board will consider setting a public hearing date for the purpose of discussing the possible closing of Central Montessori Elementary School. The proposed public hearing date is Thursday, April 26th at 7 p.m. in Media Center at Forest Lake Area High School. The possible closing of the Central Montessori Elementary School is related to budget reductions required to create a balanced budget for the 2018-2019 school year.

It is my hope that if you have feelings on this matter, you will come to our public hearing and discuss them with us. I would also welcome the opportunity to discuss this matter with you individually if you have questions or concerns. Please know that the district takes these decisions very seriously, and we understand that these types of decisions carry an enormous impact on all learners within the district. We are exceptionally proud of services and programs we offer the students throughout the school district, and we remain committed to providing every student with the highest quality education possible.

Regardless of the outcome of this conversation, the members of the district administration and the school board know that a solid learning experience is of the utmost importance for all students and families, and we will do everything in our power to preserve that high-quality experience.

    School calendar change
A calendar shift has been approved by the school board for the 2017-2018 school year. In 2017, the first day of school will be August 21st and the last day of school in the spring of 2018 will be May 23rd, two weeks earlier than usual. This one-year calendar adjustment will allow extra time in the summer to complete construction projects at many of the district's buildings without disrupting student learning.
The school year calendar returns to normal in 2018-2019, with the first day of school scheduled after labor day and the last day scheduled for early June.
The approved district calendar for 2017-2018 can be found here and 2018-2019 calendar can be found  here on the district website.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to upgrade learning spaces around the district.
