      It is hard to believe that we are down to the last days of school! These weeks will be busy with classroom projects, field trips, our track and field day, Awards Program and Talent Show! Be sure to mark these dates on your calendar:

     DI state champs   D.I. TEAM FUNDRAISER

         Our Scandia Destination Imagination Team won first place at the State meet and earned themselves a trip to Flobals in Knoxville, TN! We are so proud of them!
        The team is currently raising funds to support their trip. On Friday, May 11, during lunch hours here at Scandia we are hosting a DIce Cream Social. Students can have one scoop for $1 or two scoops for $2. You can send dollars to school with your student but please send exact amounts as change cannot be give (the donations are dropped into a large cone.) THANK YOU for supporting our D.I. team!!

        Scandia Elementary's annual Talent Show is scheduled for Wednesday, May 23. Registrations are due to your child's teacher by May 11. Forms are available in the office. Please remember that if your child is singing or dancing to music, we need to have the lyrics to the music attached to the registration form. If you have any questions, please contact the office at 651-982-3300.

    MN Reading Corp Position Open

      oin us as we head back to school this fall! Scandia Elementary IB World School is looking for caring adults to serve with Minnesota Reading Corps and help kids become successful readers. You'll work directly with students every school day, during school hours, August - June. We are looking to fill these positions: K-3 Literacy Tutor - 7 hours per day, 5 days per week.
       Tutors come from many backgrounds and include recent high school and college grads, career changers, stay-at-home parents and retirees. With training, support from onsite coaches and evidence-based strategies, Reading Corps tutors are well-equipped to change lives. No previous teaching experience necessary!
       Tutors earn a living allowance, education award (up to $5,920) to repay student loans or pay tuition, and federal student load forbearance.     Congratulations Math Masters

         Scandia's Math Masters team comprised of ten fifth graders competed very well in St. Paul at one of the state competitions for Math Masters. Scandia's students were divided into two teams which placed 12th and 13th respectively in a field of 35 teams. There were also 165 students who competed individually and Scandia students who placed in the top 25% were Augie Tarlizzo, Jackson Langreck and Mack Ibister. Scandia's Math Master's team is coached by fourth grade teacher, Rachel Strehlow.

Events

  • FAMILY ORIENTATION NIGHT
     
    Scandia's Family Orientation Night will be held on Wednesday, August 16th, from 5:00-7:00 pm. Students will have the opportunity to get their fall school picture taken during that time. Classrooms will be open so you can meet your child's teacher and learn about the grade level. The Forest Lake Food Service and Scandia-Marine Lions sponsor a light supper for families.
     
     
    BREAKFAST TOGETHER
     
    Each month a different grade level is invited to come and have breakfast together from 8:30-9:05 in our cafeteria. Invitations are sent home prior to the event.
     
    WILD WALK
     
    Scandia Elementary's Wild Walk is on Friday, October 6, 2017. Families and neighbors sponsor students to participate in physical fitness games during the day. This is our PTO's primary fundraiser for the school year.
     
    CONFERENCES
     
    Fall Conferences are September 26, 28 & 29. Spring Conferences are March 6, 8 & 9.
     
    DALA GALA
     
    Sponsored by the Scandia PTO, the Dala Gala social event is for adults to support Scandia Elementary IB World School and to celebrate our success as an International Baccalaureate World School. This year's Dala Gala is on Friday, February 2, 2018.
     
    ART & ACADEMIC FAIR
     
    The Art & Academic Fair is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their inquiry into science, art, history, technology and creative writing. It is held on February 23, 2018, from 5:30-7:30 pm.
     
    CARNIVAL
     
    The Scandia PTO sponsors a school carnival filled with games, raffles, food and fun! The carnival will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018, from 5:30-7:30 pm.
     
    ACADEMIC AWARD CEREMONY
     
    Student academic excellence and sixth grade graduation are part of this yearly event. The program will be held on May 22, 2018 at 10:00 am.
     
    TALENT SHOW
     
    "Scandia's Got Talent" our annual school talent show will be on May 23, 2018.
