       Fall conferences are scheduled for September 26 and September 28 in the evening, and September 29 during the day. Conference letters have been sent home with students. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions.
      

    MARK YOUR CALENDARS: WILD WALK! wild walk

        The Scandia Elementary PTO is getting ready for our annual WILD WALK, which will be held on October 6. Wild Walk is a week of community building along with fundraising for Scandia Elementary IB World School. During the week of Wild Walk the students have special days, including pajama day and crazy hair day! On the day of the Wild Walk, October 6, students spend their gym class outside participating in a variety of athletic and team building games. After the games, the Scandia-Marine Lions treat the students to cookies and juice!
         The Wild Walk spirit days are listed on our Calendar of Events, and the schedule for the Wild Walk day will be posted by September 22. Families are welcome to attend, we hope to see you there!!
     

    book fair   SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR IS COMING 
     
       The fall book fair, "Saddle Up and Read!" will be held in the media center from September 25-29. Flyers and information will be coming home the week of September 15. Students will be able to purchase books during their media time. The book fair will also be open during conferences for parents to shop. We hope to see you there!
     

    READING CORPS JOB OPPORTUNITY

    Minnesota Reading Corps Literacy Tutor
    Due to unforeseen circumstances, I am in need of a 3/4 time Reading Corps Literacy tutor. This is a great opportunity to be in our school on a daily basis and work with students one on one to improve their reading skills. Minnesota Reading Corps hires you and gives you training and the materials to support you. We also have a full time Reading Corps member here to assist you. If you are interested, please read the following from Minnesota Reading Corps and apply through them. It's a GREAT program that really helps our students! Thank you!

    Would you love to help children grow their reading skills and succeed in school? If your answer is yes, you can serve as a tutor with Minnesota Reading Corps at Scandia Elementary!
    As a Literacy Tutor, you'll use research-proven strategies to help Scandia Elementary students gain the reading skills they need to thrive in school and in life.
    Tutors come from many backgrounds and include recent high school and college grads, career changers, stay-at-home parents, and retirees. With extensive training, support from onsite coaches, and evidence-based strategies, Reading Corps tutors are well-equipped to change lives.  Additionally, Reading Corps tutors may earn a living allowance, education award, and federal student loan forbearance for their service.
    Last year, Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps provided direct services to more than 30,000 children in more than 700 sites across the state. Click Here to apply to make a difference at Scandia Elementary in the 2017-18 school year!

    SCANDIA ELEMENTARY IB WORLD SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT
     
    The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Events

  • FAMILY ORIENTATION NIGHT
     
    Scandia's Family Orientation Night will be held on Wednesday, August 16th, from 5:00-7:00 pm. Students will have the opportunity to get their fall school picture taken during that time. Classrooms will be open so you can meet your child's teacher and learn about the grade level. The Forest Lake Food Service and Scandia-Marine Lions sponsor a light supper for families.
     
    BREAKFAST TOGETHER
     
    Each month a different grade level is invited to come and have breakfast together from 8:30-9:05 in our cafeteria. Invitations are sent home prior to the event.
     
    WILD WALK
     
    Scandia Elementary's Wild Walk is on Friday, October 6, 2017. Families and neighbors sponsor students to participate in physical fitness games during the day. This is our PTO's primary fundraiser for the school year.
     
    CONFERENCES
     
    Fall Conferences are September 26, 28 & 29. Spring Conferences are March 6, 8 & 9.
     
    DALA GALA
     
    Sponsored by the Scandia PTO, the Dala Gala social event is for adults to support Scandia Elementary IB World School and to celebrate our success as an International Baccalaureate World School. This year's Dala Gala is on Friday, January 19, 2018.
     
    ART & ACADEMIC FAIR
     
    The Art & Academic Fair is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their inquiry into science, art, history, technology and creative writing. It is held on February 23, 2018.
     
    CARNIVAL
     
    The Scandia PTO sponsors a school carnival filled with games, raffles, food and fun! The carnival will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018, from 5:30-7:30 pm.
     
    ACADEMIC AWARD CEREMONY
     
    Student academic excellence and sixth grade graduation are part of this yearly event. The program will be held on May 22, 2018 at 10:00 am.
     
    TALENT SHOW
     
    "Scandia's Got Talent" our annual school talent show will be on May 23, 2018.
