Symptoms and Testing
-
What symptoms should I look for to determine if my child may have COVID-19?
Please closely monitor your child for symptoms and keep them home if they’re sick or symptomatic. Some of the symptoms of COVID-19 include fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, chills, new or worsening cough, difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, fatigue, headache, muscle or body aches, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting and diarrhea.
-
What do I do if my child is experiencing symptoms consistent with Covid?
Current recommendation from MDH is as follows: your child should remain at home, seek medical evaluation and/or test for COVID. If your child has/is being tested for COVID they will need to remain out of school until the results are known.
If your child’s test results are negative they are able to return to school when their symptoms have improved and they have been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.
Your child's absences will NEED to be reported daily.
-
Am I required to have my child tested for Covid?
No, If you do not wish to test your child for COVID at this time you will need to follow these recommendations at a minimum: Your child should remain at home for 24 hours after their symptoms have resolved and they are fever free without taking any type of fever reducing medication.
Your child's absences will NEED to be reported daily.
Close Contacts
-
Household close contacts
Household members are considered close contacts and must remain home for a minimum of 5 days following the last close contact with the positive individual as well as wear a well-fitted mask for an additional 5 days when returning to school.
The only exception is that fully vaccinated people and those who have had COVID-19 within the past 90-days are not required to quarantine as long as they are not experiencing symptoms. We ask that in those scenarios your child wears a mask while at school for the 10 days following their last exposure.
Please contact the attendance line for your child’s school and report the calculated timeline or you may use the Student COVID Reporting Form (Linked Here)
-
Close contacts with people outside of the home
Close contacts who do not live in the same household as a positive case are encouraged to follow the guidelines from MDH which includes the option to self-quarantine. Students and staff will not be required by the School District to quarantine in these scenarios. Parents/guardians and staff are urged to wear a face covering for 14 days, monitor for symptoms and isolate and test if symptoms are present.
If you choose to have your child remain home in this scenario please contact the attendance office to report their absences and to receive additional information regarding the distance learning plan.
Students who test positive
-
My child tested positive for Covid, what should I do?
If your child tested positive for COVID they will need to isolate and remain home for a minimum 5-day period as well as wear a well-fitted mask for an additional 5 days upon return to school. Please complete the Student COVID Reporting Form (Linked Here) and the District’s Health Services Team will provide detailed information on this timeline and their return to school date.
Please review close contact guidance above for District response to household members
Repeat testing and/or negative test is NOT required to return to school.
