A MINNESOTA SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE
Welcome to Forest View Elementary School, a two-time winner of the Minnesota School of Excellence Award and the United States Department of Education Certificate of Merit! Located in the beautiful lakeside community of Forest Lake, Minnesota, Forest View is one of eight elementary schools in Independent District #831.
Forest View has a history of excellence in academics, student activities, and community involvement. The goal of the school is to teach students to "Be the Best They Can Be," and our students and staff follow four guiding principles as we pursue academic excellence --- Respect, Work, Belong, and Be Kind. In pursuing those goals our students have done well not only on state and national tests, but also in activities such as Future Problem Solving. For instance, in past years, our Future Problem Solving teams took first place in all divisions in the state competition, the first time in Minnesota history that one elementary school swept first place in all categories.
Our staff is committed to providing a positive learning environment, and we receive many compliments from our parents about the warm, caring atmosphere in our school. The staff at Forest View values each child, and we invite the public to join us in building a partnership of community, parents, and school in order to prepare tomorrow's citizens.
Information about our school
Forest View Elementary is located in the beautiful city of Forest Lake, nestled amongst the pine trees along Fourth Street. Forest View opened in 1968 and now houses approximately 585 students in grades K-3. We have specialists in the areas of special education, speech, media, general music, technology, CHAMP, and physical education.
How to get here: Forest View can be found thirty minutes north of either downtown Minneapolis or St. Paul. Follow 35E or 35W north to exit 131. From the north, follow 35. At exit 131, go east on Broadway past the stoplight until you come to Fourth Street. Turn right (south) on Fourth Street. Forest View is the third school on the right. Find Forest View on a map.
Rainbow World: In 1999, after years of planning and fund raising, Forest View completed it's very own playground, Rainbow World. Students, families and staff joined together to raise the $60,000 necessary to purchase the playground equipment and volunteers provided the physical labor to construct it. Many thanks to the dedicated individuals who assisted in this project!
Rangerland: Many of you probably played on Sharewood Playground which was built in the spring of 1990. After 18 years of use, this playground was replaced by Rangerland. Not only is this a fun place to play but the playground is designed to help children develop upper body strength and promotes overall physical fitness.
Forest View Elementary believes in an educational experience that will guide a child through life. This process is a shared responsibility among students, parents, and educators. We will:
Provide a challenging and enriching curriculum for all students that promotes appreciation, understanding, and respect of individual uniqueness, and diversity within our school, community, country, and world.
Offer a stimulating and positive learning environment directed toward excellence.
Promote integrity, responsibility, and self esteem.
Provide positive leadership in dealing with educational concerns and innovations.
Forest View Song
Words and Music by Bruce A. Abbe
There are schools across our America made of brick or wood or stone.
Each one has a special identity but there's one that stands alone.
This one has a special quality, it's a place kids want to be.
You'll find this school in Forest Lake nestled back amongst the trees.
Forest View, it is a place where I belong.
Everybody here will help each other along.
Forest View, it is a place kids want to be.
Everybody here can be the best they can be.
All the teachers, students, and parents too, make up the Forest View team.
We all work together as partners, cooperation is our theme.
No matter what life hands us out, we are by each other's side.
When people ask us where we're from, we will sing it out with pride.
We know that we'll succeed if we try the best we can.
There's nothing we can't do if we all work hand in hand, hand in hand.
