• A planning committee has been developed to guide the administration in decision making for returning to school for the Early Childhood Programs in the fall. The Early Childhood Planning Committee met weekly during the summer to guide the development of these plans and will continue to meet regularly during the school year to reevaluate the plans as needed.

Good afternoon ECFE and Little Rangers Preschool families,

As you saw in the email from the school district we are preparing for students to return to in-person learning. Below is some information as it specifically pertains to our Early Childhood Programs.

What does it mean to have preschool separated from the other grades?

This means that we will be keeping our students away from other grade levels for the first two weeks by doing the following:

    • Cold lunches in the classroom.
    • Bathrooms will be used in the classroom when possible.
    • Recess will be a separate scheduled time.

    Little Rangers Preschool

As we plan for students’ return to our schools, we need to know if you will be making any changes to your child’s enrollment. By default, your child remains enrolled in the original class they were enrolled in before this distance learning period. If you wish to change their enrollment, you will need to log into your Eleyo account to make this change by Wednesday, January 6. This allows us time to adjust staffing and make any class assignment changes necessary. If you need assistance with this, please contact Tracy Angelo at 651-982-8110. I suggest logging into your account regardless just to check your contract to ensure that your child’s contract is accurate.

Invoices will be adjusted and sent out next week. The distance learning program ends on Friday, January 15th, and in-person learning beginning on Tuesday, January 19th.

    Little Rangers Academy

Suppose you are not interested in returning to in-person learning. In that case, you can register for our 3-5-year-old online preschool program, Little Rangers Academy. You can find more information, including how to register, by clicking here

Most ECFE classes have been continuing as usual. The ECFE Friends class will begin introducing the second, independent Thursday on January 21st. Sadly, Katie DePrez has left our ECFE program. However, Katie Colvin will be continuing with ECFE and is excited to take on the Parent Education role! We are in the process of adjusting our ECFE model to accommodate this staffing change. Still, we will continue to offer a high-quality ECFE program!

    Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE)

If your child receives special education services, your child’s case manager will contact you within the first few weeks of January to discuss services for your child as we move into the in-person model. They will also discuss with you your child’s transportation needs.

    Clerical Change

It is with a heavy heart that I must share that Paige Brier has resigned from her position in our program. I am in the process of hiring another office assistant, so please be patient with me while I sort out some of the items that were in process and learn some new systems. I do have some other community education assistants helping as well during this transition time. Still, they are learning about our program as well. If you have questions about billing, please reach out to Tracy Angelo at 651-982-8110 or tangelo@flaschools.org, and she will be happy to assist you.

Information regarding childcare is available via this FLAS Return to In-Person Learning Childcare Program 2020-2021 link.

    Preschool and ECFE Families,

It was announced at last night’s School Board meeting that our elementary and middle schools will be moving into full Distance Learning beginning December 3rd. As a result of this shift into Distance Learning, our Preschool programs will also be paused and supported through Distance Learning. We know that supporting our youngest learner’s social-emotional development is best done in person. So, while the district has dialed back, our Preschool team will be creating a plan that brings children back into our classrooms, in some capacity beginning December 7th.

    ECFE Classes

Regularly scheduled ECFE classes will remain safely open and in person as we are at 50% capacity and meet once per week. Drop-in classes will be canceled for the duration of Distance Learning. Classes scheduled for December 1st and 2nd will continue as scheduled. A new session does begin in January so make sure to register online for that. The only change to ECFE will be the Friends class, which will continue as a Tuesday only class.

    December 3-4

To support your child’s learning, we will be providing you with lessons, videos, and learning activities for your family to do at your convenience on Seesaw.

    Beginning December 7

We will be offering a modified hybrid allowing us to bring students into the classrooms once a week with distance learning supports for the remainder of the week. Relationships are the foundation of early childhood, and our teachers want to see your child—however we make that happen. For 4-year-olds we will be offering a three day half-day program, and for 3-year-olds we will be offering a two day, half-day program. The layout of this program will look like this:

    • Day One In-Person Learning: children may attend school for a half day, options will be communicated later. Materials will be sent home that will be used later in the week.  If you are not comfortable sending your child to an in-person setting this day will be modified with attending circle time live and additional activities being sent home.
    • Day Two Virtual Learning: Children will be able to attend a live Zoom meeting with their teacher and classmates.
    • Day Three Home Learning: This is for the 4-year-old classes. Students will have access to learning activities and videos on Seesaw to expand on learning for the week.

You will need to register your child for a distance learning class online. Please select Little Rangers Preschool Distance Learning and ensure that you have selected your child’s teacher and location. If you have questions or are unsure which class to sign up for please contact Paige Brier at 651-982-8349. Class sizes are limited to allow adequate social distancing. Priority will be given to families already registered at that site. For your child to start on the in-person day during the week of December 7th  you must be registered by Tuesday, December 1st. If you need assistance in figuring out which class to register for please click here

    Discounted Tuition

As you may know, most of our program is tuition-funded and not supported by state funding. We depend on tuition to be able to continue offering quality education opportunities to families in the school district. During our Distance Learning time, our teachers will still be working to prepare materials, plan activities, and be there to support your family during this important period of child development. However, we realize that this learning model is different than what we normally do. With this in mind, please see the tuition information below that is based on our 3 day, half-day program with a 25% discount on home learning days.

    • 4-year-old program tuition will be $17.50 per day (3 days per week). If you are not comfortable sending your child during the in-person learning day tuition will be reduced to $15.75 per day (3 days per week).
    • 3-year-old program tuition will be $16.50 per day (2 days per week). If you are not comfortable sending your child during the in-person learning day tuition will be reduced to $12.50 per day (2 days per week).

If paying tuition is a hardship, please contact our office at 651-982-8349. We understand these are unprecedented times and we value our relationship with your family.

Transportation services are still being finalized at this time. Once information is finalized it will be sent out to families.

    Special Education Services

For students who are receiving preschool services as part of their Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Individualized Family Services Plan (IFSP), your child’s case manager will be in contact with you about your child’s in-person and at-home learning day schedule. Services will continue to take place as outlined in your child’s IEP or IFSP.

Please know that your child’s learning and well-being is most important to us. As we move forward, we will continue to do what is best for kids! If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to us. We are all stronger together!

  • Hybrid Update

Posted by Bethany Hardy on 10/26/2020

    Good afternoon Early Childhood Families,

You should have already received an email from Dr. Massey, letting you know that the Forest Lake Area Schools elementary system will be shifting to a hybrid learning model beginning Tuesday, November 10th. Along with this shift, there will not be school on November 5th or 6th. I wanted to explain how this affects the Little Rangers Preschool and Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE). Although the K-6 system will be transitioning to following the maroon and gold calendar, we will continue to follow our regular early childhood calendar.

I have met with district administration to gain the approval of our Preschool Model and ECFE Model for hybrid learning. After some discussion, we have decided that enrollment and attendance for all classes will stay the same. We are running our classes at approximately 50% capacity or lower, and students are in small cohorts.

    Make-Up Days

As stated above, there will not be any school on November 5th or 6th. For general education students, if your child is missing a day of school on either of these days, we have extended the school year beyond our regular end date of May 21st to include Monday, May 24th, and Tuesday, May 25th. If your child was scheduled to attend school on November 5th, they will now attend on Tuesday, May 25th. If your child was scheduled to attend school on November 6th, they will now attend on Monday, May 24th. If your child was not scheduled to attend on either November 5th or 6th, there will not be a make-up day for them. If your child is receiving Special Education services and you have questions about the ECSE calendar, please reach out to your case manager.

ECFE classes for November 5th and 6th will run as scheduled for November 5th and 6th because they do not rely on transportation or food service.

Transportation will continue as usual for students for the duration of hybrid learning.

    Symptom Reporting

Our district follows the decision making tree provided by MDH to decide when to exclude students and staff. If your child is experiencing any symptoms, you or your child is being tested for COVID-19, or you have questions about this decision making tree, please contact your child’s building nurse.

    Cleaning Procedures

Please review our COVID Preparedness Plan for details on our cleaning procedures.

    Education Center Drop Off/Pick Up

All families will use door #17 for pick up and drop off due to the increased traffic at door #18 for the childcare program.

For some added details about what our programs look like in the hybrid learning model, review our Preschool Models and ECFE Models.

If you need to make changes to your child’s enrollment, please contact Paige Brier as soon as possible. Paige will send out billing reminders tomorrow, and automatic payments come out of accounts on November 10th. Thank you all for your flexibility during these times. If you have any questions, please let me or Sara know.

  • Wondering about masks

On July 22, Governor Walz issued an executive order requiring masks throughout Minnesota in all public indoor spaces. This order will apply to both students and staff within out school district. please review our Frequently Asked Questions for more information about the mask requirement.
