Calling all Scandia Stars! The last day of school Talent Show is a tradition at Scandia and we want to do one this year as well. This year's show will need to be a virtual one. If you would like to participate in the talent show this year, you are encouraged to make a video of your talent. We'll put the videos together and will send out the show to families on the last day of school, June 5.
Information about submitting an act was included in the Scandia Scoop that was sent on May 15. The deadline to send your video to your classroom teacher is Wednesday, May 27 by 3:30 pm. Please contact your child's teacher or the main office with questions.

We will have our Academic Awards ceremony via video, and the recording will be sent out to families via a private link in the scoop on Friday, May 29. Families will be able to pick up their students' award certificates during our last drop off days on June 4 and 5.

What a wonderful time we had seeing so many families drive by during our "Scandia Car Parade" at school on May 6! It was good to see your smiling faces! We miss you, Scandia Stars!! Here are the links to see the parade:

Dear Scandia Elementary IB World School Families:
These are unprecedented times in our nation's history to say the least! As we move into distance learning, I ask for your continued support and cooperation as Scandia Elementary IB World School works in tandem with you to deliver distance learning as well as any other support we can give your family. I can tell you that I have never been so proud of our teachers at any time as in the last couple of week as they have worked together virtually and with social distancing to develop learning that continues to cover the Minnesota State Standards, recognizes the unique needs of our students, and is cognizant to the fact that some families have online access while others do not.
We also understand that the educational needs of your students are not the only worries on your minds. Please let me know if there is anything that we can do to help your family during this stressful time. A good "one stop" website for information on many different resources is the Forest Lake Area Schools Covid-19 website:

What to Expect from Distance Learning

Distance learning started on April 1 for Forest Lake Area Schools, including Scandia Elementary IB World School. Moving forward, your child's teacher will be contacting you at least two times during the week of learning to see what they can be doing to support your student. This communication may be through email, phone calls, or video conferencing. If you receive a voicemail or email, please respond. Student attendance will be taken weekly based on whether or not teachers have been able to have back and forth communication with you and/or your student. During this "Stay at Home" period, our teachers will be predominantly working from their homes and will be available during school hours to communicate with you and/or your student.

    Media Information

If you are looking for information on what our Scandia Elementary and Forest Lake Area Schools media centers can do for you, please click on our media specialist's website link: Ms. Kohler's Library. It will give you information on how to check out books from our Scandia media Center, as well as information on other resources provided by our Forest Lake media centers and online resources.

Pick Up and Drop Off Day

The May dates for "Family Pick up/Drop off" are May 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm. Again, we will be using Door #10 and the same procedure as our first pick up day on April 1. When you arrive at Scandia, please drive around to the back of the building to Door #10, where we will collect your student's paper assignments and give you their new assignments for the week. If you have any questions, please contact Kathy in the main office for assistance.

Thank you for your partnership and continued support as we start distance learning. I will continue with updates and information throughout this time. Please contact me with any questions, concerns, and positives! We're learning together.

    Thank you!
    Julie Greiman, Principal
