FLAS Spanish Immersion PlusSpanish Immersion is offered beginning in Kindergarten at Forest View Elementary School and Lino Lakes Elementary STEM School.
Forest Lake Area Schools offers Immersion Plus programming in which students are taught literacy instruction in English while other subject areas, including math and science, are taught in Spanish. There is growing evidence that developing literacy skills in a child’s first language is of considerable benefit to acquisition of a second language and to a child’s overall academic success. By providing literacy instruction in English at the elementary level, children have the opportunity to develop a strong foundation in literacy skills in English to ensure they don’t fall behind academically while scaffolding their learning of Spanish through the study of content areas.
Students who enroll in the Forest Lake Area Schools Spanish Immersion Plus program in elementary school will be taught by fully licensed teachers and will have the opportunity to continue with immersion course offerings throughout grades 7-12.
Students enrolling in kindergarten in Forest Lake Area Schools for 2018-2019 have the opportunity to enroll in our Spanish Immersion Plus program at either Forest View Elementary School or Lino Lakes Elementary STEM School. The Immersion Plus program at Forest Lake Area Schools is available with no tuition cost for parents of either in-district or open-enrolled students, and transportation is fully provided to in-district residents at no cost to parents.
