At its June 7th meeting, the school board provided clarity about what the community can expect from either outcome of the November 6th operating levy referendum. The board approved a list of cuts to be considered if the referendum fails and a list of spending priorities if the referendum succeeds. Pool open for summer swim lessons
While the district is buzzing with construction, the Forest Lake Area Schools Pool is open. Community Education is offering swim lessons for all ages and levels throughout the summer. To view all lesson options, visit www.flaschools.org/ce.

Due to ongoing financial challenges and a projected $2 million budget shortfall for next year, the Forest Lake Area School Board voted Thursday to close Central Montessori Elementary School (CME) at the end of the 2017-2018 school year. Click here to see the news release issued by the district.
Recently retired Forest Lake Area Schools Superintendent Linda Madsen will be among the eight new entrants on May 21 to the school district’s two halls of fame. Dr. Madsen will be inducted to the Forest Lake Area Schools District Hall of Fame along with: chemistry professor Alexander Norquist and businessman Scott Norquist, both of whom are alumni; former Forest Lake mayor John Skoglund; former Wyoming Elementary Principal Mike Conway; and former school board president Norton Taylor. The new inductees to the Forest Lake Area High School Arts & Athletics Hall of Fame will be former Nordic Skiing star and current Rangers coach Ben Fick, and former standout football player John Bruley. Wyoming Principal Curtis Slater has been named the 2018 Minnesota National Distinguished Principal of the Year. The announcement came on May 3 from Minnesota Elementary School Principals Association (MESPA), the organization which sponsors the award. Click the following link to see the news release from MESPA.
The Forest Lake Area School Board on April 19 voted to submit to voters a levy referendum for the Nov. 6 ballot. The referendum would increase the current levy, which is $424 per pupil, an additional $825 per pupil. Click on the following link to see the district's news release.
